What’s going on out on the land?
Tracking the Birds at Saugeen First Nations
I believe this was the seventh or eighth year that I had the chance to track at Saugeen Shores with the Earth Tracks Wildlife Tracking Apprenticeship program. This is a great tracking spot as every year we encounter a varied array of tracks in the sandy beach and trails and a diverse assortment of sign out on the rocky spit which juts out into Lake Huron (or Naadowewi-gichigami in Ojibwe).
Corvid Tracks at Bishop Mac
I ended up driving across town this morning to visit a spot where I’ve found Osprey nests, plenty of White-tailed Deer trails as well as tons of Coyote scat and trails in hopes of trailing some animals. While I did backtrack, and later fore track a deer for a good portion of my morning, the most interesting find were the corvid tracks I found in the parking lot as soon as I stepped out of the car.
